Personal Growth
Counselling isn’t just for a time of crisis.
While a crisis may be what leads us to counselling initially there are times in life that you can benefit from counselling without the crisis to spur you into it.
It may be that you want to grow and evolve, and you aren’t sure how or what direction to go in. You may want to get to know yourself better – your stress triggers, attachment style, dysregulation patterns, or how to hack your unique brain for happy chemicals. When you aren’t in a crisis it is the perfect time. You have the capacity, energy and focus to investigate how you tick. You can discover ways to enhance your happiness in the present, and work on managing the next stress that comes (because it will come, that’s how life works) in a more proactive and responsive way.
Doing this alone can be hard. A counsellor can be the person to provide guidance to get from where you are to where you’d like to be. In counselling you can learn new strategies and practice new skills. You can be supported by someone who can be objective to your circumstances while caring about you as a person. It’s having someone be a tour guide who is familiar with the local pit falls so you can explore the new territory safely. It’s like having someone who’s visited all the awesome hot spots that can direct you to the ones you might like best.
It’s the chance to invest in yourself the same way you invest in your partner, your kids, and your job.
